Minutes of Last Meeting
Noted 1	The minutes had been circulated. There were no matters arising.

Secretary’s Report
Noted 2	The 3^rd team had won the minor section of the Summer 1998 Welsh KO Plate, the 2^nd team the Summer 1998 East Glamorgan Consolation Cup, and the 1^st team the open section of the Summer 1999 Welsh KO Plate.
Noted 3	In the East Glamorgan League, the 1^st team had comfortable held their 1^st division status, the 2^nd team had held on in the 2^nd division, and the 3^rd team had been relegated from the 3^rd to the 4^th division.
Noted 4	The 1^st Barry Chess Club Rapid Play Tournament had been a success and well received by those taking part.
Noted 5	Prospects for the forthcoming season looked rosy with Gareth Morris joining the club and the gain of at least two juniors.
Noted 6	The AGM of the East Glamorgan Chess Association had been held two weeks previously.
	A proposal changes to team eligibility rules (which would have adversely affected Barry) had been defeated.
	Paul Keevil (grading officer) would be introducing a new system to inform him directly of results for grading purposes. To facilitate this K Gandy had designed team captain’s logs.
	A volunteer for EGCA Treasurer was required, as also was a match captain for the EG team.

Treasurer’s Report
Noted 7	A concise statement of income and expenditure was circulated.⁽¹⁾
Agreed 1	The annual subscription fees would remain unchanged.
Agreed 2	For the 1999 season only, senior members would pay an additional Ł5 millenium payment for the purchase of chess clocks and other equipment.
Agreed 3	Subscriptions should be collected before September, and C Woolcock be given a cheque to purchase the equipment at the Swansea Chess Congress in September. (One clock to be engraved as East Glamorgan Consolation Cup Winners 1998.) Action: N Ralphs, C Woolcock
Agreed 4	The Treasurer at his discretion could waive the millenium payment for members where Barry was their second club.

Election of Officers
Agreed 5	4 league teams would be run.

Elected 6	Election of 4^th team captain was deferred to see whether D Mahoney would be prepared to voluteer.

Agreed 6	The last two nominations for the 3^rd team would be finalised in two weeks. The nominations to come from W Lambert, W Lewis and D Mahoney. (Because the nominated players could not play down, it would limit those nominated to 12 games in the season.)

2^nd Rapid Play Tournament
Noted 8	The Barry Town Council had moved their deadline for applications for grants from March to February. In common with other clubs, associations, and societies, the Chess Club had been missed this.
Noted 9	An application for a grant was with the Vale of Glamorgan council but this had yet to be considered.
Noted 10	The club gave a vote of thanks to K Gandy for the organisation and running of the 1^st tournament and his continued effort towards the 2^nd.
Agreed 7	Dow Corning might be interested in sponsoring. S White would provide K Gandy with the name of a contact. Action: S White
Agreed 8	The tournament would be run in any event, but without sponsorship the prize fund would have to be cut.


Any Other Business
Noted 11	There was no interest in a millenium festivity get together.
Agreed 9	*Somebody* should test the chess clocks and sort the chess sets before the start of the season. Action: Somebody
Agreed 10	An attempt would be made at a ladder tournament. Action: K Gandy
Agreed 11	Members were happy to see themselves referred to by name in the newspaper column.
Agreed 12	The 1^st and 3^rd teams home night should differ from the 2^nd and 4^th. This matter, that of 3^rd team nominations, and that of 4^th team captain to be resolved at an informal meeting in a fortnights time.

	⁽¹⁾The balance b/forward excluding the rapid play grant is Ł53.99. There are outstanding liabilities in the balance c/forward which suggest little change in overall position.
