[Rules of Play] [Appendix] [Adjournments] [Adjudications] [Players on Call] [Interruptions ] [Quickplay Finishes]

RULES GOVERNING CONTINUATION OF GAMES WHERE A QUICKPLAY FINISH HAS NOT BEEN CHOSEN

  1. Option
  2. On the call of time, either player may request a second session to be played.

  3. Sealed Move
  4. The player whose turn it is to move must then seal his next move (normal sealed moves rules to apply) and then hand the envelope to the opponent. Players should ensure that their clock times are noted on the envelope and the time consumed to this point can be calculated.

  5. Venue and Dates
  6. The player not seeking continuation shall have the choice of venue and shall offer the opponent reasonable dates. The opponent shall accept one of the dates offered. The agreed date for playing on shall be recorded by the team captains on their match cards or else the letters TBA (to be agreed) entered. If the date is agreed later, both players should inform the executive director by letter or e-mail (not verbally) when this is done.

In the event of a dispute, the executive director may call upon the match cards to be submitted. If only one card is produced, or only one player informs the executive director of the agreed date for playing on, that account shall be accepted. Where both parties fail to inform of the agreed date, then it shall be taken that no date was agreed. The executive director may refer the game for adjudication in the event of a continuing dispute.

  7. Time Window
  8. The second session must be played before the fourth Saturday following the initial session, except at the discretion of the executive director.

If neither player contacts the executive director for a postponement or with the result within a 4 week period of the initial session, both players will be defaulted.

  9. Second Session Rate of Play
  10. Any game that is adjourned must be played to a finish on the night ie no adjudication. The clocks are to be adjusted as would normally be the case, (ie clocks to be adjusted for the second session so that the total time for each player for the game [including the first session] will be 2hr 30min - secretary) but all moves are then to be completed within the available time.

  11. Change of Mind
  12. The request that a second session be played may only be revoked with the agreement of the opponent.

Notes Regarding Sealed Moves

  1. Home Team Responsibilities
  2. The home team is responsible for the provision of envelopes. If they fail to do this and a player exerts the right to adjourn then:-

    1.
    2. If it is a member of the home team to move, they must make an open sealed move.

    3.
    4. If it is a member of the away team to move, the last move of the opponent shall stand as an open sealed move.

  3. The Score Sheets
  4. Both score sheets must be placed in the envelope.

  5. Time Control
  6. The player sealing the move must not exceed any time control of 7 moves in 15 minutes which may apply (even though these time controls do not apply in the second session).

  7. FIDE
  8. In the case of a dispute, FIDE rules to apply.
