Fixture postponements left only one of Barry Chess Clubs five team with an East Glamorgan league match to play last week.
The Barry Gambits, still desperately hoping to strike a patch of good form in their so far pretty dismal season, travelled to play the Cardiff Cavaliers for a division 3 match on Wednesday evening but the good chess fairy once again chose not to wave her wand in the direction of Barrys fourth team.
Despite losing board 5, a win and two draws from board 2, 3 and 4 presented the Gambits with a chance of snatching the match if their advantage on board 1 could be converted to another point but sadly this was not to be as Cardiff turned the game and ran out the eventual 3:2 match winners.
Barry Chess Club had become aware that some readers experienced difficulties in trying to access its old web site. Hopefully no problems will exist with the clubs new site, www.barrychessclub.org.uk, where a variety of information including latest individual game results, East Glamorgan league tables, cup match details and other chess-related items of interest can be found.
New players of any standard will be welcomed to join the clubs existing members on Wednesday evenings at 7:45 p.m. on the first floor of the Witchill Hotel, Barry Road.
